Letter from CEO Brian Rusch to Celebrate Third Year Anniversary of Out For Equality

ree

THREE YEARS!

It’s hard to believe how far Out For Equality has come in such a short time - and how much we’ve accomplished together. From the very beginning, our mission has been clear: to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with grassroots LGBTQIA+ organizations and activists around the world - fighting for equality, safety, and dignity. And thanks to you - our incredible partners, supporters, and community - that mission is alive and thriving.

Together, we have witnessed remarkable progress. From Pride celebrations continuing to thrive across the globe, to the GLAS Foundation-led amendment of Bulgaria’s penal code strengthening protections for LGBTQIA+ people, to the launch of Pride Home in Delhi - a safe and empowering space helping our community build new skills and independence - these are victories worth celebrating. We’ve also seen the forward momentum of equality in India, led by Prince Manvendra, and continued storytelling and advocacy by Journal RAGE Liberia, amplifying voices that must be heard. And of course, our ongoing fight for human rights in Uganda remains at the very heart of our mission.

Of course, we know this work isn’t easy. Funding cuts to LGBTQIA+ organizations are making our life-saving efforts around HIV awareness, prevention, and treatment even harder. Around the world, transgender people are being demonized, and we’re witnessing a troubling erosion of LGBTQIA+ rights in too many places. These challenges are real - and they remind us why we cannot slow down.

But when I look back on these past three years, I don’t just see obstacles. I see strength. I see compassion. I see a global movement that refuses to give up. Together, we’ve proven that change is possible - and that love, courage, and solidarity can outshine even the darkest moments.

Thank you for being part of this journey. Here’s to the next chapter - filled with hope, pride, and the unwavering belief that equality is for everyone.

With gratitude and pride,

Brian Rusch
